After reading many reviews for the various brands of 1 inch circle punches I decided on this one for making bottle cap charms. There was one review in particular that stood out saying that the Martha Stewart punches are supposed to be among the best (if not THE best). That same reviewer said how that while there may be a few random bad MS punches, when you get MS they are usually good & the bad ones are usually rare.So I ordered the MS 1 inch circle punch, it arrived in true Amazon fashion (love Prime!), & was all set up to make bottle caps with my DD. Well, that lasted for about 2 seconds until the 1st test punch was made into a sheet of copy paper.... the smile quickly faded from our trusting faces after several more test punches & the realization that we must have received one of the rare MS punches with a burr or burrs on it.I wasn't about to disassemble it to try & file it down as one reviewer stated they had done, but I was bound & determined to try to put a smile back on my sweet DD's face who was trying to make Christmas presents for her sisters & friends. I closely examined & tried to feel the surface of the blade, etc. & I felt several rough spots / burrs that were causing the paper to get hung up in the punch, and would not allow it to cut completely through all around the entire circle. It also seemed like there might have been a section that was rubbing together with the outer circle that the inner punch was pushing the paper through.I first tried punching though aluminum foil, but that didn't work for anything (some reviewers said that would sharpen it). After that I didn't take the punch apart, but rather I squeezed it as though I was trying to punch through some paper & I lightly sanded the actual circle part that does the punch (one reviewer said they disassembled the punch & filed down the burrs, but I wasn't going to disassemble it & then not be able to return it) & also the edge of the metal where the circle punch pushes through (not sure how to describe it). Lightly sanding didn't help at first so I was a bit firmer. I noticed a slight improvement in the punch & the flap that wasn't entirely cut through was getting smaller so I used a medium grit sandpaper & sanded a bit more. VOILA! That did the trick... my DD was soooo happy as was I knowing she was happy & would have enough time for her projects to dry in time to wrap them to give for Christmas. We ran into an issue with some of the bottle caps not turning out as well as we wanted them to so we decided to remake some of them after looking at the them next morning once they were fully dry. The problem came into play then when I went to use the MS punch again the next day & it was not cutting right yet again.. mind you I only cut a total of 8 circles with it through photo paper & it wasn't working again. I lightly sanded the edges & was able to get 5 more cut out with jagged edges but the 6th one just wasn't happening.Later that day I contacted Amazon and the punch has been returned. I let them send me a replacement & made one punch with it through copy paper, which was fine, but I haven't yet used it on photo paper nor made a lot of punches with it, so I will update more when we do bottle cap charms rounds 3. I'm hoping this MS punch works great & stays that way. My advice is that if you get a bad one to start, don't try & fiddle with it.. either get a replacement sent (if from Amazon, etc. online) or go to a local store to get one you can test right away & return if it is a dud. Don't naively wait until you must have it to find out it won't work.Learn from my mistake, frustration, & disappointment! This product has done its job well.PROSFunction: works as described. It punches a snowflake perfectly each time. This was used to punch snowflakes out of a paper lined with glitter on it. It was needed to make my wedding invitations. Let's just say well over 300 snowflakes were punched out. After so much use, I could slowly feel the puncher lose its sharpness. It started becoming much more dull and the edges of the snowflakes weren't cut so clean. The plate cutters started sticking to each other.Appearance: It looks great. Nice off-white color to it with a reflective image of what the punch will look like.CONSComfort: the handles were a bit small for my hands. I wish they were a big bigger so that they didn't dig into my palms.Precision: it's difficult to see where you will be punching out exactly. It's a good thing I didn't need precision as all I had to do was keep punching out snowflakes. I could imagine that it would be difficult to use if you needed precision as there is no guide to where it will punch. You can sort of turn the stamp upside down and see where the hole in the metal plate is located.Overall, I'm happy with it. I even ordered a 2nd snowflake puncher. For the price, it's very affordable and can last a while. Who punches out 300+ in a day anyway? That amount of use normally takes years.I would definitely recommend this to friends.I purchased this snowflake punch for use in card making. I was very pleased with the quality of the punch, but have not used it for an extended period of time, so I do not know how it will hold up. It punches out a very crisp-edged snowflake out of card stock and out of thinner vellum paper as well. I thought it would shred the vellum a bit, but as you can see in the photograph, the edges are just as crisp as when cutting card stock. It is a versatile size as well. The snowflakes can be used singly or in groups, e.g. in a circle to make a wreath on a card. Because I like to conserve the amount of paper I use, it is important for me to be able to place the snowflake exactly on the paper where I want it. That requires me to see the underside of the punch which this does allow. I have included several photograph to assist you in making a purchasing decision. I would definitely recommend this for purchase. Does not stick and consistently makes clean edges.I'm a Perfectly Posh consultant. I've been able to make my own labels using single print Avery labels for a while but they never lined up right. In frustration, I decided to print the labels on full page sticker sheets and punch out the 1" labels myself using this hole punch. Well, it works. The punch lines up with my labels perfectly and makes the labels look beautiful on my samples. I only had one issue. After about 1 month of use, my punch started to stick and was hard to flex. It was starting to feel like I was using one of those hand squeeze exercise grips every time I'd punch out a label. My pages held 77 labels. Imagine the frustration. I came to the conclusion the glue from the labels was sticking inside my punch. So I soaked it in denatured alcohol for a while. Fixed it right up. So, my tip: If you get this punch for making labels out of full-size sticker sheets, make sure to soak occasionally in alcohol to remove the gunk build up of glue. This thing does not come apart or fall apart. It's well made. You sharpen it by punching holes in foil which works wonders. To punch the labels evenly, hold the punch upside down to see where the label lines up. I love this thing. Recommended for consultants.THIS IS BRILLIANT! Ordered yesterday so we can make our own snowflake confetti for our winter themed wedding and to do cutouts on invitations etc. Just had a little practice on a piece of paper and I am SO impressed! So easy to use, I didnt even need to press down on a hard surface. The design is very intricate and neat. So, so impressed and glad I went ahead despite initial thoughts that the price was a bit much. Everything I own shall now have snowflakes cut out of it.This is a good quality butterfly punch, and the butterflies come out very crisp and neat, but the punch itself is quite big and heavy for a small item punch, because of the added hand grip. Large butterfly measures 2cm across x 1.6cm from wing tip to wing base. Small butterflies are 1cm across and 8mm from wing tip to wing base.Stopped working after a few uses (about 20 or so punches) - and I used fairly thin/regular patterned paper (so nothing so thick it would bend the blades). Disappointing. Have discarded the packaging so can't return. Maybe I just got a faulty one...had it continued to function would have been worth every penny. This is a great punch and after using it quite a lot it is still working great. Don't buy it if you're planning on punching anything thinner than paper. I was going to punch some tissue paper and it simply doesn't work on something so thin. I just had to fold the sheet loads of times until it was thick enough to punch, but apart from that it's fab.Have paid out for endless poor quality punches that go blunt of break under even the slightest pressure. Who measures the thickness of their paper/card after the first few uses. Martha Stewart punches have fine, sharp designs giving excellent cutouts time after time, and so strong I feel it will last for years.
