The paper lace this punch makes, looks very pretty - I have used it on white paper and just pasted the 'lace' created on a dark paper and the effect is very elegant and beautiful. However, the punch has a few chinks that need to be sorted out :1. Invariably there are a few 'petals' that do not get punched out completely and need to be removed manually - this is more tricky than it seems, as it may ruin the punched out piece if pulled too hard and block some of the design, if its not pulled out completely.2. The lace effect looks VERY different if you try to punch to the edge of the paper - the solid edge of paper at the end gets separated (as it would if you punch till the end) but the look of the 'lace / pattern' is very different then and it would have been nice to be able to view that before buying the punch. I actually like it better without the solid edge, so its fine for me. Hence the 4 stars. This punch made my Christmas Cards look real nice! And I got several compliments for the way our Church Programs looked too. As a matter of fact, the satisfaction I got from using this punch has caused me to order a few more! One of the Edge + Corner has since arrived but I am yet to use it.These are well built and easy to handle. The hardest thing to do is line up the pattern and once you have a flat surface to work on- that's a breeze. I have managed to line up photos so that only the very edge is punched- saves about 1/4" on the size if edge space is limited: instead of pushing the paper all the way in to the lip on the back of the punch, line up with the silver zigzag line as that is where the punch cuts through. This may take a little more attention but it's an option!I see myself getting lots more uses from this punch. The puncher creates a very nice image, and I can even cut out the punched part and use it for a silhouette, which is an exciting (and hoped for) bonus. The problem arises when I try to create a seamless edge made up of the birds on a wire. I follow the directions and the guidelines, but since I'm trying to line up a tiny wire with a tiny wire, it is very difficult to get a seamless wire. Also, to point out the obvious, please note that you can only get the birds on the wire at the top of the paper - they will be upside down at the bottom. It makes sense but I didn't think about it when I ordered it. I was thinking I would be able to just have birds on the bottom edge of the paper. Silly me.Overall, though, I'm very happy with it. The design is very cute and the punch is consistent. This is not something I would have ever thought to look for let alone buy. So glad I did get this, loving it!!! It is so easy to use following the guides; plus easy to store. Makes projects extra special for my scrapbook pages. I don't make my own cards, but I believe it would give an elegant look to any special card to that special someone. It takes time to thread the ribbon through, depending on size. {Mine was on a 12x12 card stock edge} but it is something to do to pass time or while watching your fave tv show. This products other great attribute is that it punches so easily, I'm sure anyone with minor arthritic problems could use this with ease. That is how great it works. As designed. Martha Stewart products have not performed well for me and I mostly avoid them. This item and the paper scoring board are exceptions, so far. I hope I find other MS treasures that work better than some of the other things I've tried. For instance, MS acrylic brushes came apart - replaced by Grumbaucher. A set of MS bed sheets fell apart at the seams after one washing - used for rags. This punch is nice and if possible, I test them at a craft store from now on.I'm wary of MS products and hoping they get better. This punch is wonderfully designed. There are guide bars on the side of the punch so that you can create a continuous lined-up design down the side of your paper. It does take a bit of practice to make sure that the wire lines up, but beyond that, it is very simple to use.Do note that if you use this punch all the way around a sheet of paper, the birds will be upside down on the bottom, so plan ahead for this if you want them to be right side up, you will have to punch a separate piece of paper and attach it right-side up.Other than that, great design, great product, another "good thing" from Martha.I've been meaning to get these edge punches for a long time. My first--the doily lace one-- arrived less than a week ago, and my second is on its way as of this writing. I tested it on the narrower edge of a 3"x 5" note card, and subsequently on a few Post-It notes before I realized that in order to get the full design on one edge, the smaller pieces of paper had to be folded in half before I could slide them in place and clamp down. The results? Bellissimo! I plan to order many more! This is my second purchase of this item. I used the other one so much that it simply wouldn't punch any more. (Yes -- I know all about tin foil sharpening plus waxing w/wax paper). This is such a sweet, simple and versatile lace pattern that can be used EVERYWHERE!!! I use it on cards, scrapbook pages, borders for photos, letterhead -- if it is paper, I have used this to punch it at one time or another. I have several other lace edge punches, but this is my favorite. This is a nice punch, Martha Stewart punches are always really high quality. It is easy to use and lines up well every time, have never had an issue with it punching unevenly. This design is suitable for male and female cards. I have removed a star because the one thing I don't like is that while it punches cardstock really well it just chews up pearlescent paper. That's a huge disappointment to me as I usually make inserts for cards fro pearlescent paper and like to have nice borders on them. To be fair to this brand I will say that the Fiskars Advant Edge and Interchangeable Border Punches don't punch pearlescent paper either, but I have many different brands of corner punches that punch it fine without any problems. That being said I wouldn't be without it and I would recommend it highly as one every crafter should have in their stash! The end results are fab....it's the getting there that's not! If you're using this on paper; the paper tends to get stuck in the cutter and if you're using this on card it's even worse! You're hand will start to ache after a few uses, as you have to put quite a bit of pressure on the handle, whilst holding the rest of the cutter down. If you don't do this the cutter lifts off the table. Also, the card can tend to get stuck in the cutter or the cutter can tend to jam all together. It's more of a 2 1/2 star rating due to the issues I've come across but the fact that the end results are lovely I've given it a 3. Definitely wouldn't pay that price again for it.Lovely little lace punch, I had a little bit of trouble with the first punch that I received as it wasn't punching through the paper cleanly. This was quickly resolved by Amazon who had the punch collected the next day as well as delivering a new replacement. Pretty amazing service, and the new punch works great cutting through paper and 280 GSM paper/card (my wedding invites!). It's a lovely product and has given my invitations a really pretty look.I specifically wanted this design, which came exactly how described, however the metal punch itself is quite stiff and doesn't punch all the way through even with thin card. I find myself having to pick out each individual scallop punch in the paper because it leaves in indentation in some areas instead of cutting through the paper. But all in all it does work, you just have to be persistent and keep re-punching without moving it at all, so you can get the desired scalloped ends! There is also a print on the punch that shows you where to line up the last half of the scallop with so you get a seamless trim. This is a small Martha Stewart punch of the expected excellent quality. Please note that this punch does not have the usual folding 'wings' so it is a little more awkward to store. The pattern is universal, not too feminine nor too masculine, and I've already used it to good effect to embellish my cards with fancy edged ribbons and toppers.Great value punch and fun to use.
