I bought this Cherish Punch a short while before the Holidays and only recently got the time to play around with it. Sadly I had already tossed out the package as well as the insert that came with it so I was really at a loss- first trying random pieces of paper to see how best I can get the two to work together and eventually I gave up and went to YouTube! The first video I clicked on- the lady made specific reference to the insert that comes with the punch....even going so far as to say you should laminate it and never lose it...oh boy! I was loosing hope...I may never be able to get the proper benefit of owning this punch....then I got a bright idea: why not search to see if I could find the insert online...BINGO![...]Now in case the link gets removed from this review- it's pretty simple-The smallest piece you can use the combo on is 3.25". And it goes up by increments of 1.75"; so that the next size up is 5" then 6.75" and so on. That is to say, you can start with a 3.25" square or a rectangle 5"x6.75".Now once I understood the measurements needed, I was ready to experiment! Now I should mention that the video I saw on YouTube, the lady also had the same issue I would soon encounter: try as I might, I always had a little notch left in between the design. That is to say- the two corner punches and the one straight punch really do cut a total area just shy of the recommended 3.25"...maybe about 1-2mm. While it may be as simple as having a scissors handy to snip off the little "ears" left in between, it can catch your eye as being "off balanced" in the actual pattern and I can only imagine that the bigger you project the more evident the gap is going to be.The other thing I noticed with this combo is that once you use the corner punch, you CANNOT push the paper all the way(to the lip) into the straight one to continue the pattern. You MUST use the corner/curve guide. If you rely on using the lip on the straight punch to "get it straight" you will notice an inset of about 1-1.5mm-mismatched/misaligned against the corner. Now apart from those observations- these two punches work quite smoothly. They are sturdy and require very little pressure to cut through card stock.I can't wait to use them on an actual project!
