I've been researching modern nutrition and the effects the toxins we're exposed to daily have on our bodies for years now, and let me just say, if you're feeling overwhelmed - join the club! It's mind-boggling what has been allowed to go on with our toxicity levels in everything from our produce to our toothpaste to our mattresses. But don't let it discourage you!! Cleaning out your system and finding the right balance will, quite literally, make you feel like a new person.I suffered from an undiagnosed hormone imbalance issues for so long, it was to the point where I just assumed I was actually losing my mind and that this was just the way the rest of my life was going to be. Eventually, I was diagnosed, but no doctor seemed to have a solution to the problem. Then I saw the documentary Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead and decided to get control of my life back. I thought we were a relatively healthy household, but it made me look at the food in our pantry in a whole different light (additives! GMO's! high fructose corn syrup! dyes! you name it!) We ditched packaged foods and went strictly Real/Whole Foods Only. I began juicing (did not do a detox) daily. And the difference it has made is astounding. Since, I have become fascinated by the effects of toxins on our hormones and bodies.I have yet to do a full detox or cleanse but have been wanting to. I've been waiting anxiously for the release of this book to see if maybe this would be the detox for me. Obviously, I have just purchased the book, so I can't detail my detox or share my progress, but I will break down the basics of the book.Part 1 goes into detail of the benefits of detoxing and why it's so easy to gain weight, yet seems so hard to lose. The benefits they boast are more energy, clearer focus, fewer headache and backaches, less arthritis and joint pain, stronger immune systems and fewer colds, less skin problems like acne and eczema, reduction of cellulite, better hair and nails, better skin, improved digestion, and less addiction to sugars and caffeines, to name a few.Provides a detox overload test. I can't really imagine the average person (on an average American diet) passing this one. Signs of toxic overload can include allergies, asthma, depression, anxiety, headaches, indigestion, aggression, and others previously mentioned.Toxins interrupt metabolic functions, impairing the body's ability to move nutrients between cells, generate new cells, create energy, and repair the body. The immune system goes into overdrive trying to compensate for the overload of toxins, which is why symptoms manifest themselves.Goes into the science of Obesogens - toxins that disrupt the regulation of fat storage and energy. I'd never heard of them before, so this was completely new to me and very interesting. Explains why losing weight is so difficult for some. Obesogens are found in nicotine, high fructose corn syrup, pesticides and herbicides, bpa's, hormones and antibiotics, phthalates, and more. The good about green juices, high antioxidant berry drinks. digestive enzymes, aloe vera, protein drinks, and probiotics.Part 2 details the detox itself: (Make a game plan, Get set up properly, Juicing, soups and broths, crank up our healing, the transition off the detox)It outlines 3 detox fundamentals:1. Consuming maximum nutrition in small doses2. Nourishing your body every 2 hours3. Consuming all nourishment in liquid formConsult a dr., get your mind ready, pick a date, get your supplements (antioxidant berry drink, green drink powder, protein powder, enzymes, aloe vera, probiotics, omega 3's, and enough distilled water for 64 ounces a day) and equipment (juicer, food processor or blender, optional slow cooker) ready, and go!Gives a detailed shopping list that includes foods' and herbs' healing properties.A lot of juicing recipes for beginners, intermediate, and advanced. Also gives a list of ailments (eye problems? Annoying cough? Premature aging? Hay Fever?) it gives you the list of vegetables used to improve these problems.A ton of soup recipes: the "master" soup, red , leek soup, cabbage, creamy broccoli, parsnip, stir-fry broccoli soup, pumpkin, and moreLists the healing properties of essential oils and how to take healthful baths. Then, 9 days of easing back into food.Part 3 shows you how to keep it going (stay light, eat lean, finding balance, benefits of regular detoxes, and healthy recipes)-The 75/25 Solution. For those of you worried you can never have fried chicken again, fear not!! It's all about balance!-5 rules to sustained healthy eating- being mindful of when you eat-How to eat out, survive parties, and make it through the holidays-handling food cravings-Keeping a food log-Info on acid-alkaline foodsThere's SO much information packed into this book, it could easily be broken up into 5 separate books. I've picked my date (March 24) and am in the process of getting everything I need. I plan on updating as the detox goes along (most likely in the comments, as this review is already long enough).Highly recommended for anyone who has been toying with the idea of a detox but hasn't gone for it yet. The information and success stories provided in this book were enough to convince me to go for it, so why not you? Also for those who are seasoned detoxers and may be looking for some new information and recipes. Here goes nothing!
