I’m always a sucker for a story of a woman who is trying to reinvent herself and winds up in the small town of her youth to figure out her life. Stewart’s portrait of small-town Primrose, NC, was delightfully compelling and made me want to visit. Her relatable tale of Abby losing her job and realizing she lost herself, only to regain her footing in her great-aunt’s home while rediscovering her purpose and a love from her past wove a spellbinding story I found hard to put down.My favorite character was her aunt’s lifelong friend, Belle, an unexpected pleasure Abby discovers living in her aunt’s home when she arrives in town to take possession. Belle keeps Great-Aunt Leila alive in the story in such a lovely manner though her ongoing conversations with her as the story unfolds. I hope to live to Belle’s age as long as my faculties remain as sharp as hers. I cried at the end of the story, sincerely missing these friends I’ve never met and wishing there was more to their story.If you’re looking to escape to a lovely small town near the North Carolina coast in a tale with a delightful cast of characters, I highly recommend this book.
